Your backpacks are on their way
We will be sending backpacks on their journey again in 2019 - over 4,000 of them were loaded in Mainz and are now on their way to Africa.

Friday, September 13 should not be an unlucky day for Mary's Meals. With the diligent support of three classes of the Otto-Schott-Gymnasium, the caretaker, two members of the Mainz Lions Club and many other helpers, over 4,000 backpacks were loaded in Mainz.
We have been carrying out the backpack project in addition to the school meals for several years now. Used backpacks - mainly from school children - from Germany, Austria, Italy, Great Britain and Ireland are filled with various items for school attendance and everyday life and transported to our project countries Malawi and Liberia by container ship. The transport is worthwhile in comparison to buying locally, because the local school materials are mostly imported goods that the families can hardly afford and because the transport costs per rucksack are low. A total of over 500,000 school bags have already been collected and distributed to the children.
We would like to thank everyone who donated a rucksack and of course also those who helped with the loading!
